Retirement Communities and Independent
Living in New Jersey
Retirement Communities in New
Jersey are often also referred to as independent living centers.
These retirement homes offer self-contained senior apartments and are suitable
for those with little, or no, medical needs.
Senior living communities
in New Jersey are often quite luxurious gated community living for the
active adult. Some retirement communities do have age restrictions
and will only accept residents over the age of 55 years.

In this type of retirement
living, you can purchase or lease a senior condo, within a community where
living is geared towards a fulfilling and active elderly retirement.
Retirement communities are really designed for those who can pay for their
own care. Many retirement communities in New Jersey offer communal
facilities to help their residents keep mobile and active. Often
they have sports complexes offering tennis, swimming pools, fitness clubs
and golf courses. |
The condos can vary in size
from small one-bedroom studios to larger two-bedroom apartments.
Some retirement centers are designed to accommodate individual residents,
whereas others are aimed more at retiring couples.
| The costs of a retirement
home in New Jersey depend upon what sort of community you are interested
in, what size of condo, and what extra services and facilities are included.
Some residences are very affordable from as little as $1000 per month,
however there are both cheap and expensive retirement homes, and it is
recommended that you do compare the costs of retirement homes that match
your needs. |

As we now have a rapidly expanding
senior population, many of which, wish to age in place, and stay in their
home as they get elderly, we are seeing more Naturally Occurring Retirement
Communities (NORC) coming into being in New Jersey. A NORC is where
people over 60 are the majority, they havent moved there especially as
they retire, these communities have just organically developed. Where
a NORC has developed, the state is trying to ensure that adequate senior
services are situated to meet the needs of the majority senior residents.
